The Albany Public Library upholds the public’s free access to information and fosters life-long learning. APL provides materials in a variety of formats, technology, services and programs to fill informational, educational, aesthetic and recreational needs of the community. The APL currently has six branches and a Bookmobile, which travels throughout Albany's neighborhoods, making stops at senior housing, schools, after-school programs, Head Start locations, and special community events. APL is rapidly moving ahead on new branch construction and renovation plans. The Pine Hills Branch will almost double in size when it utilizes the second floor of its existing building, the John A. Howe Branch will be rehabilitated and a new Delaware Branch will be in a renovated building on Delaware Avenue. Construction on two new branches, the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch on Henry Johnson Blvd. and the John J. Bach Branch on New Scotland Avenue, will begin in 2008.

Parsons is the area's largest multi-services agency in Upstate New York dedicated to helping families and their children. The agency provides counseling services, parenting education, child abuse/neglect prevention and treatment, family strengthening programs, early childhood family support, special education, youth development programs, and mental health services.
